Tips for decorating your home for the holidays

From sparkling houses to gardens flashing with a thousand lights, no doubt, the parties and their share of sparkling garlands are back!

If after decorating your tree, you also want to adorn your home and yard with holiday light, here are some tips to make your life easier.

Always use waterproof and outdoor garlands specially designed to withstand the elements. Place these as high as possible and away from gutters. Also, to prevent water or snow from seeping into the sockets, put the bulbs upside down.

Who hasn't found themselves with a bundle of garlands all tangled up in their hands? In addition, being painful, it can be dangerous. Indeed, by wiggling and mixing in all directions, the wires can be damaged and generate a short circuit. If there are too many knots, consider changing your garland.

The same goes with defective bulbs: change them. Sometimes, we don't bother to replace the burnt out bulbs because the rest works very well and our decoration is no less beautiful. Still, those broken lights could cause the entire system to malfunction.

Also, be careful not to accumulate extension cords by connecting several garlands and other electrical decorations one after the other. Also, avoid overloading your power strip.

Before going to bed or if you leave your home, turn off all fairy lights. In general, never leave your Christmas decorations on unattended.

In addition, it is strongly recommended that you do not leave your garlands on for too long. A stopwatch will take care of turning your garlands on and off during the time periods you have programmed. Look at the bright side: this will save you money on your electricity bill.

To avoid damaging your home, insulating tape and plastic clips are your allies, rather than nails, screws or staples, which will leave unsightly holes and may even damage the outer casing of electrical wires and cause a short circuit. Here is a beautiful example of a well-lit house that has been decorated by one of our employees, Fabienne Leunens!
